Valerie K. Harvey is an award-winning artist known for her vibrant landscapes, expressive pet portraits, whimsical abstracts and representative work that includes a variety of subjects. Her art is a reflection of her life, connection to the natural world and the creatures that inhabit it.

Val has actively pursued art throughout her life as another method of studying the world around her. Her goal is not to recreate a photo, but to communicate a feeling within a memory or image. She also enjoys the challenge and learning that plein air painting provides.
When not working or at her easel, Val can be found exploring natural areas. She is usually snapping reference photos, or intently pondering a scenic detail. Her other passion is volunteering in the community to support local artists and to advocate for protecting natural spaces and all the creatures that inhabit them.

Val works primarily in acrylic paint. She enjoys painting on a variety of surfaces including wood, canvas, gessobord, and paper. Val uses her own  photos as a reference, but injects bright, unexpected colors and altering the composition for the desired effect. Her goal is never photorealism, but to communicate the feeling within a memory or image.

Val is grateful for her family who are her biggest cheerleaders as well as many wonderful and encouraging teachers along the way. Val was born in the south, but raised throughout the midwest and has resided in South Carolina since 2013. Each location has provided its own unique experiences and helped to shape her artistic viewpoint.

Valerie is a Signature Member or the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA), the NAWA SC Chapter and an active member of the Mt. Pleasant Artist Guild.
